Before we leave for Hali, a short drive through Djúpivogur, the oldest harbor city in Iceland. Very small town and a good sense of humor… The guy at the recption told me that there are Red-throated divers just outside of the town to be seen. Using the Tamron 150-600 I was able to grab some shots […]

Day 11: To the south via Djúpivogur
One interim stop on the way to the south today. We will spend one night in Djúpivogur. We leave early towards the Dettifoss. As it is on our way, we do a last quick stop at Námafjall. Today is no wind and the steam goes nearly straight up. Nice little things are just besides where you stand […]
Day 10: Around Myvatn and another catastrophe
Before I start with Day 10, a quick recap from Day 8 in Heydalur. They had a little Arctic Fox there. Still feral but not moving from that area. That little buddy was truly everybody’s darling. Here’s one shot of the little mischief. As it was very crowded yesterday at Goðafoss we decided to go there […]
Day 9: Myvatn
Today we are going to Myvatn. The route we take is from Sauðárkrókur up north to Siglufjörður and then via Dalvik, Akureyri and Goðafoss to Reynihlíð, Myvatn. The first section to Siglufjörður and half down to Akureyri is mostly driving in the low clouds. Via ring road 1 we will continue most of the travel from now on. Akureyri is truly […]
Day 8: Towards Myvatn via Sauðárkrókur
The whole day is mainly for driving from Heydalur to Myvatn. Interim stop at Sauðárkrókur. The way is via the Hvitserkur. Unfortunately we decided not to go down to the beach… Worst pictures possibly ever taken of that place. The black beach close to Hvitserkur. Finally in Sauðárkrókur. Not very nice but will work for just one […]
Day 7: Drangajökull
Before breakfast I did some shots of the Iceland horses in Heydalur. Today the only plan is to walk to the Drangajökull. We arrive at the parking around 11:30 and walk directly towards the glacier. After about half of the distance the area got a bit swampy and the small runlets from the mountain to […]
Day 6: On the way to Heydalur
Very good weather when starting from Látrabjarg towards Heydalur in the northern part of the Westfjords. We take the route at the western coast via Dynjandi waterfall and Ísafjörður. Terrific panoramic views nearly throughout the whole drive. After 2 hours we reach the Dynjandi. Heard that it is not that crowded as other places but that seemed to […]
Day 5: Rauðisandur, Patreksfjörður & Látrabjarg
Not as cold as yesterday and seems like the wind is getting less. First point to visit is Rauðisandur where a golden to red beach with 10 km length is located. When we arrive, the first surprise I notice is the Snæfellsjökull view from here. Clear at the top without clouds. Trying with the Tamron tele lens on […]
Day 4: Welcome to the Westfjords
Today we’re going from Snorrastaðir to Látrabjarg. The route is planned via Klofingur and Rkhólaeyr at the southern coast line of the Westfjords. To Klofingur we are taking the gravel road 590. Close to the stopover there’s a sign to a church (in the middle of nowhere); something which wakes up curiosity. The F-road leading there […]
Day-3: Snæfellsnes Tour
Early up and the sun is shining! Fantastic! Now we only need this for the tour to Snæfellsnes. Long story short… yes, it is fantastic weather at nearly all places on the peninsula. On to Hellnar seeing the wonderful cave of lava in the water, the Baðstofa. After a short walk we are driving back […]
