Today we are going to Myvatn. The route we take is from Sauðárkrókur up north to Siglufjörður and then via Dalvik, Akureyri and Goðafoss to Reynihlíð, Myvatn.

The first section to Siglufjörður and half down to Akureyri is mostly driving in the low clouds.

Via ring road 1 we will continue most of the travel from now on.

Akureyri is truly nice. The small town (compared to what we are used to) is – according to the travel guide – the second largest city in Iceland.

First stop at Goðafoss shows the waterfall in cloudy and rainy shape. Also lots of tourist buses are there. We decide to drive further to the hotel and check back later today.

The hotel at Myvatn has definitely seen better days. Wonder how they can make it for a 8.2 point rating. The bathroom is smelling like the “rotten egg smell” of Hverarönd.

Back at Goðafoss the clouds are still there and it’s slightly raining but the majority of the tourists are gone. We’ll check back tomorrow.

At last a very short stop at Námafjall which is also on the list for tomorrow.
