Early morning hours this time. I am there at about 8 am, still a bit dark but sunrise is promising some nice light. One photographer is already there 🙂 This time I am using my D800 with Nikkor 200-400 and Sigma 150-600 S partially on tripod. When the light is good for some 1600 ISO […]

Rainy day with just a short time of some light. Not really good weather to take good pictures of the owls. However, they were quite busy during the 30 minutes I went there.
Another 90 minutes at the owl’s place. Although a normal workday there are about 20 photographers there some of them travelled more than 300 kilometers to get here. The weather is fantastic and the owls are in good mood. Sometimes one get the impression that they really pose for the people. I did around 800 […]
Short break during day to rush over to the owl’s place. Staying there for 25 minutes using my D4 and the 200-400@f4 got me around 550 pictures on the chip. It was insane! The owls were so close coming by or sitting in the green, amazing.
Two nice fellows from a photo community visited Cuxhaven to take some shots of the Short-eared owls. Lucky they were, very nice weather and towards the end a lot of action from 2 birds. The weather has turned from cold snow to slightly above 0°C, so the snow was already nearly gone. OK, you cannot […]
Quick visit over midday. Some activity from the owls shortly after I arrived. However, it was very cold and foggy, so I only stayed there for about an hour. All shots today were done with the D4 and Sigma 150-600 S.
We will go to Italy in 2016. The whole tour is planned to be done by car. Planned route so far: Route is from hometown to Como (as an interim stop) Cinque Terre (Levanto) Tuscany (Artimino) Rome (with a single day trip to Pompeii) Venezia (Trevisio stay for a single day in Venice) and then back.
Yesterday’s weather was promised to be brillant, and it turned out to be. Photographers from far came to the place where the owls are. Some did more than 400 kilometers to get here. The scenery was quite bizarre. For some time the owls – people say it seem to be six birds – were active […]
It started snowing early afternoon for 2h. After that sun came through and shortly before sunset time it was golden light. Unfortunately, the meadow where the owls are was already in full shadow. I was able to take some shots using the D7200 and the Sigma 150-600 in around 20 minutes but had to use […]
Since a couple of weeks there are 4 short-eared owls hunting during day close to Cuxhaven’s marina. Yesterday I was able to grab them during some sunny moments using the D7200 and the Tamron 150-600. Some more shots are available on my SmugMug site by clicking on one of the pictures above.
