The day in the hide for the Bonelli’s Eagle was by far the best day of the trip. Just for that it was worth it to go to Extremadura. Here I also managed a panorama picture from three portrait shots. The two never sat together, always at a certain distance. It was often too close […]

A morning in the Kingfisher hide. In the beginning the birds stayed far away in the back (and dark) part of the area. Later, actually shortly before the time was up, also closer to the hide. At the end the female organized a real show as well… I also managed to catch the fast bird […]
Among vultures… At least that was the plan for one day. Unfortunately no one had told the vultures. The weather was however also very bad and so they let themselves be seen after over seven hours waiting time for approx. 2 minutes. In the meantime a robin and a small group of Egyptian mongoose passed […]
From 7th to 13th November we did a trip to Spain’s Extremadura. Mainly it was about bird photography. Partly from hides, but also on excursions. In retrospect one can say that the season is not suitable for it. Rather the spring or the early autumn should be considered here. Nevertheless, some species were to be […]
In the second post about Fanal I had shown a sequence of pictures showing how the clouds come over the cloud forest and disappear again. Here is a suitable video.
In this article I give some hints about the visited places and how the pictures were taken. Parque Infantil “Pico dos Barcelos” The Parque Infantil Pico dos Barcelos is a children’s playground with a small park and a restaurant. There is a parking lot directly in front of the entrance (but only about 20 parking spaces). […]
The total distance I recorded with my Garmin (without flight) is shown here: On Madeira, 2053 kilometres were covered over the 2 weeks. During this time I used 2 cameras with overlapping lenses. The Nikon D800 was mainly used in Funchal in the market hall and at the volcano visit. Otherwise the Nikon D850 was […]
The Pico Ruivo is with 1861m the highest mountain on Madeira. A well-developed hiking trail leads from the car park to the top of the mountain. The way was quite exhausting, especially the last 500 meters. After 2500 meters you reach the above shown house, approx. 500 meters before the summit (where it gets quite […]
The so-called “Valley of the Nuns” Curral das Freiras was also on our list. However, it was not quite the expected highlight. Especially at the Miradouro do Curral das Freiras there are many tourists, who are driven up by busses during a day trip.
At first we didn’t really have this place on our list. Here the visitor also has the rough lava coast, as in Porto Moniz. Would be interesting how this place is when winds are higher.. In the picture above the view goes towards Sao Vicente. Through the cut between east and west part of the […]
