Before I start with Day 10, a quick recap from Day 8 in Heydalur. They had a little Arctic Fox there. Still feral but not moving from that area. That little buddy was truly everybody’s darling. Here’s one shot of the little mischief.

As it was very crowded yesterday at Goðafoss we decided to go there very early in the morning. We start at the hotel at 5:30 am and get to the waterfall less than 1h later. Nobody’s there, only 3 cars but no one is running or standing at the side of the fall. Nice! Enough time to do some good shots although it is still cloudy. After 1h we decide to get back to the hotel for breakfast.

Well, that’s what we thought… The back tire on th epassanger’s side is not looking good. Air seem to leak out. Before it is fully flat we go to the other side of the fall to the N1 gas station and Souvenir shop. No air for refill available here. We give the rental car company a call but basically there’s nothing he can do from Reykjavík. We need to change the tire – again. I give the German ADAC a call and they try to get things moving with the Iceland Automobile Club. However after 2h still nothing happens. After I gave the ADAC another call, the Iceland Mobile Club calls me and tells me that they are trying to find help. Suddenly someone from the Souvenir Shop gets over and helps us changing the tire. Impressive!

Now another call to the rental car company and try to get a new tire. We decide to get to Akureyri as there are several car companies. In Akureyri the rental car owner gives us a call an tells us where to go. We hand over the car and get to a bakkerij to get some breakfast. It is now 11:30 am. At noon we go back to the tire station and the guy at reception tells me that the rental car company told them to change all 4 tires to brand new ones… Good! Bad that more than half day is gone and nothing done which is on our list.

Anyway, after getting back to Reynihlíð – of course for another time via Goðafoss we try to make the best out of this lost day…

Walking up the Hverfjall does not take long. However because of th elate start of the day we didn’t walk around the crater.

After getting back we drove to the lava fields in Dimmuborgir and Höfdi. In Höfdi we walked the route around the small peninsula. Nice views of some lava in the lake.

After dinner we go for another time to Námafjall. Better light today but of course still the strange smell.

And a last drive around the lake…
