Two nice fellows from a photo community visited Cuxhaven to take some shots of the Short-eared owls. Lucky they were, very nice weather and towards the end a lot of action from 2 birds. The weather has turned from cold snow to slightly above 0°C, so the snow was already nearly gone. OK, you cannot […]

Short-eared Owls – Fourth round
Quick visit over midday. Some activity from the owls shortly after I arrived. However, it was very cold and foggy, so I only stayed there for about an hour. All shots today were done with the D4 and Sigma 150-600 S.
Short-eared Owls – Third round
Yesterday’s weather was promised to be brillant, and it turned out to be. Photographers from far came to the place where the owls are. Some did more than 400 kilometers to get here. The scenery was quite bizarre. For some time the owls – people say it seem to be six birds – were active […]
Short-eared Owls – Second time
It started snowing early afternoon for 2h. After that sun came through and shortly before sunset time it was golden light. Unfortunately, the meadow where the owls are was already in full shadow. I was able to take some shots using the D7200 and the Sigma 150-600 in around 20 minutes but had to use […]
Short-eared Owls in Cuxhaven
Since a couple of weeks there are 4 short-eared owls hunting during day close to Cuxhaven’s marina. Yesterday I was able to grab them during some sunny moments using the D7200 and the Tamron 150-600. Some more shots are available on my SmugMug site by clicking the picture above.
Workshop Feldberg 2015
Some photos from the excellent workshop in Mecklenburg Vorpommern that was run by Rangertours. 2 action tours where the white-tailed sea eagles are baited from a boat with the ability to shoot close distance photos in action and 2 days in hides to shoot raptors and other scavengers at a baiting place. In addition some informal practice sessions with […]
Common Redshank in the salt marsh
Wanted to give the Gitzo a try using the Wimberley WH200. It does work quite nice but has no chance when compared to the Berlebach UNI-16. So, whenever size and weight allows, the UNI-16 is the first choice. A pair of Common Redshank were often up in the air to get the Seagulls away from their […]
Sunday May 10th, 2015 (addendum)
I totally forgot about the later afternoon pictures from the recent US trip. Some nice shots of the Bald Eagle’s nest with the adult sitting in. The late afternoon light was giving these pictures a much nicer look than the morning pictures. The above gives an impression on the nest size.
Polder Glies
Not a lot of action at Polder Glies but at least I was able to shoot my first cuckoo ever. The little Barn Swallow wasn’t scared and sat at the look out so I had to move backwards to get into shooting distance.
Seafowl in Cappel-Neufeld
Early morning quick stop in Cappel-Neufeld for some Oystercatchers. Unfortunately not the promised weather. Nevertheless two shots worth to keep as they show a very calm sea.
