Using my Sigma 150-600mm with TC-1401 and the D850 I tried to shoot the Jupiter. All overexposed, too long exposed with 1 second and very tiny which does not make this an option for planet or even star shootings. 850mm on full frame is far too short for such pictures, but, anyway. If I am […]

I had published my thoughts around this topic regarding photography at sunrise/sunset here. Today I have the opportunity to visualize this using an example from today’s morning shot at Cuxhaven’s Kugelbake. The picture shows the object and the structures in the sky. Easy to see which clouds don’t get any color. The accompanied part of […]
The new weather station is up and running now. The new plugin is just great and now also shows majority of my historic data. If you want to check it out, here’s the link.
I had to replace my old weather station. After 4 years the rain sensor of the Oregon WMR200 failed for the second time (outside guarantee). The new actual weather can be found here. At current I cannot provide daily, weekly and monthly overviews. Such data from my station can be viewed on Weather Underground INIEDERS390 […]
Besides choosing the right location for this kind of photography, there are conditions which allow or disallow doing it. To a good extend it is plan-able, but at last it will also need some luck. Below I tried to summarize the factors to use for prediction of such. Mid to high level clouds Clouds are […]
The traveling distance I tracked with my Garmin (without the way from home to Tuscany and back) is shown here: The total distance in Tuscany we travelled over the ten days was 1300 km. From and to Tuscany summed up to 3150 km, which gives a total of 4450 km. I used 2 camera gears over […]
Quickly decided to take some shots of the back of the building using the PC-E. Unfortunately I forgot that the D2x is not suited for the lens (you cannot shoot anything else but open aperture, so f3.5). Anyways, tried my best using the manual focus with the viewfinder and, before it started raining again, her’s a […]
The targeted 160 prints are reached. The printer still has the setup cartridges in use. In the meantime 10 out of 12 cartridges with the remark “low ink” are listed in the overview, but still filled with at least 5%. Time to do an interim conclusion … The costs and expenditures stated below are, of course, related […]
First test of the Nikkor 24mm f3.5 PC-E. As I had only my D7200 available I did only 2 images one without any tilt or shift and another one using the shift for a panorama shot (portrait mode – three images).
After several prints I received the message that one of the cartridges has low ink available. As expected this is for the Chroma-Optimizer, which is also stated in the Canon technical specifications the one getting empty rather quick (together with the grey inks). Below is the screenshot of the Canon utility showing the ink status. Not […]
