Better setup this time by using a tripod to shoot the ASR Emitter amp. Not as many CAs because the sun wasn’t lightning the amp in one section. However, the amp looks quite battered in 100% 🙂
All shots done using aperture 1.4 / 1.8 / 2.8 / 4.0 / 5.6 / 7.1 / 8.0 (picture 1 to seven of each batch). Cameras were mounted on Feisol tripod with Arca Swiss B1 head. The DX cameras were positioned further away from the amp to have same/similar picture result.
The performance of the lens does not improve beyond f5.6. The best working range therefore is between f2.8 and f5.6. If bokeh is of interest, no reason why f1.4 can’t be used. Still good performance.
All pictures were only imported into Lightroom using my standard settings: Color correction from SpyderCheckr profiles per camera. Initial sharpness applied, then exported to JPG.
First round using the D800. Of course the MPix of that camera show every scratch in the amp’s front when viewed in 100%. The performance is outstanding.
Second round using the D3. I made a mistake by setting the D3 to ISO-160. Anyways quite good performance.
Third round using the D2x. The camera was always very sharp because of it’s thin AA-filter, but this is really showing fantastic results. Using only the sweet-spot of the lens in DX format, very low CA and good sharpness starting already at 1.4. Beyond 2.8, outstanding quality.
Last round is using the D5100. Small camera size with the Nokton allows for easy carry around. The results are very good with that camera. However, even also using the sweet-spot only, the D2x is far better in comparison. More CAs with this 16-MPix sensor.
