Flight from Hamburg to Nairobi via Zurich.

After having checked with Swiss Air and Lufthansa that it is possible to check-in the luggage the night before, we went to Hamburg on Thursday late afternoon and have one night in Radisson Blu (Airport). The early check-in was a frustration. As the co-partner for Swiss Air for the first flight from Hamburg to Zurich is German Wings (a Lufthansa venture but with reduced prices AND quality) we couldn’t check-in the luggage and also they weren’t able to get us the boarding passes for the connection flight. After 1h in the Terminal building we finally gave up. So, get up early on Friday and do it then.

On Friday early morning, all went smooth with getting to Zurich and then to Nairobi. Leaving Hamburg at 7am, we landed in Nairobi at 6:25pm (local time, 1h shift from German time during summer, 2h in winter).

At Nairobi Airport it took less than 1h to get the Visa* sorted and retrieve the luggage.

Outside the building, the guide is waiting. Jackson is his name. Nice tall guy who seems to have some good kind of humor. Looks like that it’s going to be fun…

Jackson uses the Sunworld Safari off-road car to get us to the EKA-Hotel close to Nairobi airport. We’ll leave from here tomorrow at 7:30am for Masai Mara which will be a 5 to 6 hours drive.

* Kenya has the same procedure to let people get into the country as the US has. A picture is taken, both hands all fingerprints via a scanner are taken as well. Hmh, hope they both (or either one) do not try to get the DNA in the next future…
