Early morning hours to visit the spot where the Short-eared Owls are. I was trying to grab a nice picture having one of the owls in the sunrise light. While being there I also took some nice sunrise shots of the harbor area.

Short-eared Owls – Combination of two
Short-eared Owls – Another short one
Friday and Saturday the place was very crowded and I didn’t take good pictures. Only real activity was in the area closer to the street and that does not really look nice. Very windy and cold today and therefore no activity. Seems that only 2 owls are still there. Looks like the older ones have […]
Short-eared Owls – Eleventh round
Earlier there was real bad weather here. Later the day the sky cleared and it became a nice late afternoon. Around 10 photographers were at the site (this time also 2 people from Switzerland). Was able to do some nice shots using the D4 and Sigma 150-600 S. However, still need to grab some better in-flight, […]
Short-eared Owls – A quick one
A very short visit at the meadow and getting back after 20 minutes with a bunch of nice shots using the D800 and the Tamron 150-600.
Short-eared Owls – Tenth round
Weekend weather didn’t look very promising. However on Sunday a beautiful sunrise and later for about 3 hours sunshine. I just settled in the morning and was able to take one shot with beautiful colors of the sunrise in the background. Later the day a troop of photographers from outside came to the place. Never seen […]
Short-eared Owls – Ninth round
It is unbelievable how close one can get to the one owl. The other two won’t allow that. I went shortly before sunset to the site and it was amazing. Nice light although the meadow was already in the shade. Using the D4 with FX sensor and the Sigma 150-600 S, it was sometimes too […]
Short-eared Owls – Animated
I prepared 2 animated GIF from two shooting sequences. Both were done with the D4 and Sigma 150-600 S. Click on image to open in Lightbox and then on the link bottom left to start animation in a new browser tab.
Short-eared Owls – Eighth round
Early morning hours this time. I am there at about 8 am, still a bit dark but sunrise is promising some nice light. One photographer is already there 🙂 This time I am using my D800 with Nikkor 200-400 and Sigma 150-600 S partially on tripod. When the light is good for some 1600 ISO […]
Short-eared Owls – Seventh round
Another 90 minutes at the owl’s place. Although a normal workday there are about 20 photographers there some of them travelled more than 300 kilometers to get here. The weather is fantastic and the owls are in good mood. Sometimes one get the impression that they really pose for the people. I did around 800 […]
