Testrun of the Tamron vs. Nikkor 200-400. To get comparable focal length I used the 1.7 converter on the Nikkor and set it to 350mm. Both use open aperture which results in 6.3 on the Tamron and 6.7 on the Nikkor. Situation is in the shadows, early morning hours. Therefore both cameras where using ISO […]

Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD Testshots
Finally I got mine. Ordered in early February this year, it didn’t get to my local dealer for the Africa trip, so I cancelled the order. Then re-ordered in June and it arrived mid October… Well done Tamron 🙁 Quite good quality doing some quick test shots (freehand and tripod). Not like the Nikkor 200-400 […]
Voigtländer Nokton 58mm f1.4 SL II Testshots (second test)
Better setup this time by using a tripod to shoot the ASR Emitter amp. Not as many CAs because the sun wasn’t lightning the amp in one section. However, the amp looks quite battered in 100% 🙂 All shots done using aperture 1.4 / 1.8 / 2.8 / 4.0 / 5.6 / 7.1 / 8.0 […]
Some statistics from Masai Mara trip
Here are some stats generated from Lightroom from the pictures taken during the Masai Mara trip. Around 10000 photos were taken (incl. 70 videos with the D5100). More than 5600 were done with the D3/200-400 combination. First showing the used focal-length for all 4 cameras we used. Breakdown for the 3 main cameras (D3, […]

Testing long range
For upcoming Photosafari I wanted to test long range with the lenses I have. Unfortunately the Tamron 150-600mm didn’t make it to me with the first deliveries of the Nikon-Version lens so I needed to see what could compare with this. Tested with D2x and D3 which will be my first choice of cameras for […]

Another round of Close-Ups using AFS 200-400
Another round of close-ups using the Nikkor AFS 200-400/f4 shows very good results as long as the lens can be hold by hand. Tripod is a bit inflexible and the camera-lens combination quite heavy for longer sessions. So, some positive results but not as many sharp pictures compared to using a tripod.
AF-S 200-400/f4 Macro shots
The AF-S 200-400 can also be used for doing some nice close-ups. Here are some tests shots I did using the Nikon D7100. Last picture is a 1:1 crop from previous picture.
