Planned for a long, long time and then the weather or better to say the clouds put a spanner in the works on two consecutive days…

Dicke Bertha (Nikon D800 an 500mm)

The plan was to photograph the Altenbruch Lighthouse – Dicke Bertha – and the full moon or nearly full moon with a telephoto lens. At a long distance and using a large focal length, the moon will appear very nice and big on the picture.

On two days this would have been possible. The day before yesterday it was very cloudy, yesterday – from the light point of view the preferred day – it looked good at first; weather forecast also fitted. Then, the later in the evening it became the denser the cloud cover in the east.

Location for planned photo

The location is perfect for the planned photo. The distance with 610m ok, further away and with 750mm equivalent focal length unfortunately not possible, because the complete dike area is fenced.

OK, on the part of the placement moon/lighthouse Thursday would have been the better day. However, not yet completely round, since the moon would have had only 97%. Besides, no sunset would have been at that point in time.

Fuji X-T3 with 300mm

For Friday the moon position was not so ideal, but the other parameters were right. 99.9% full moon and above all also the brightness of the scene.

So it has become then only the lighthouse in front of the evening sky (and the nasty clouds).

Now it’s wait and see and take the moon as a crescent, or until next year.
