Recently bought the old Nikkor 500 AF-S first version. The shots I did so far using that lens are of amazing quality compared to the Tamron or Sigma zooms. However, the Sigma 150-600 S performs still at a high level but no chance compared to the prime lens.

Using the lens without converter delivers outstanding results on my D4 and also very good on my D7200.

Using the TC-17 still works but it is visible and quality suffers. However still at a level where I would use it if needed.

Nikkor 500f4 with TC-17 on D4

The D7200 delivers nice results using the lens without TC-17 but certainly not as good as the D4. So desperately waiting for the D500.

Using the TC-14 does not show real decline in quality on my D4, so, whenever maximum focal length and quality matters, the D4 with TC-14 is the combination to go.
