Always had the problem to keep my laptop and desktop in sync for the Lightroom and Photoshop settings, presets, etc. The solution to this is to make use of a “cloud-sync” which keeps the files used still local and does sync automatically between the machines. I am using the Synology CloudStation for this, but it would work similar with Dropbox or Google Drive.

First step is to copy and merge manually the files of the following folders to the CloudStation Folder:

  • Adobe Photoshop CC 2015
  • Lightroom
  • Camera Raw

The source can be found under $HOME/Library/Application Support/Adobe. I created similar path in the cloud folder. The Camera Raw folder is not required if no plugins are used that add profiles to the raw converter. As I installed the VSCO presets, it is needed.

Next step is to create Aliases using the Apple OSX finder. These aliases are now to be moved to the $HOME/Library/Application Support/Adobe. Alternatively Unix symlinks can be used.

That’s it. Of course one needs to take care not to write at the same time from bothor more machines to the folder.

Next test I will do is using this approach also for a work-catalog.
