Cuxhaven: Karstadt/Hertie Store

Finally, actually 2 times finally, they are tearing down the closed Karstadt/Hertie building in Cuxhaven. 2 times, because I finally found some time to have a closer look at the building pull down.

Karstadt opened their store in Cuxhaven on September 28th 1960. At that time, it was a modern concrete building but nowadays this type of architecture does not really fit into a small town like this. Definitely not if it is not operating since years. Mid 2009 they closed and since then, it was just standing there as a hulk without real perspective to be re-opened.

Some 60s carved ornaments can be seen in the concrete, actually not very nice 🙂

The parking lot is also closed since 2009 however, parking space is needed in the city as everywhere.

The company started from the back with the demolition and separating all the different materials from the building.
