Below are the planned day trips. Some of the locations might get combined, depending on time permitted. Also, we might revisit some of the locations during the stay.

Daytrip #1: Ponta de São Lourenço

This will take us to the Ponta de São Lourenço, a nice peninsula at the east side of the island. The trip will be about 80 km in total with several walks in the area.

Hike to Ponta do Buraco. This is a short 1 km hike at the west side of the peninsula.

Ponta do Farado hike. This is about 10 km and will offer several spots on the way.

Ponta do Rosto hike. Another short one of about 1 km at the east side of the peninsula.

Daytrip #2: Porto Moniz

Porto Moniz should offer some nice locations. Still hoping for some wind during our stay which will make this location even nicer. The whole trip is about 127 km.

Daytrip #3: Ponta do Pargo

Another nice coast trip, this time to the south-west side of the island. The total distance will be about 120 km.

Daytrip #4: Levada do Alcerim

One Levada has to be in the planning. The total daytrip distance will be 90 km.

Hike to the 25 Fontes and Rico waterfalls. The hike is about 8 km long.

Daytrip #5: Fanal

The woodlands of Fanal are famous for the suddenly incoming mist. The daytrip is about 110 km.

Daytrip #6: Pico do Arieiro

The Pico do Arieiro will probably be visited several times during our stay. It’s not that far away from Funchal with a total travel distance of 34 km.

Daytrip #7: Pico Ruivo

The Pico Ruivo is rather bad to get to, although close to the former location, but streets are going around the valleys and therefore the trip will be about 80 km in total.

Daytrip #8: Balcões

The Balcões tour could also be considered as a short trip. The total distance is only 30 km.

Daytrip #9:  North-East side of the island

The final planned trip is covering pretty much all of the north-east side of the island. The total distance is about 110 km.
