Feldberger Seenlandschaft – Day 3

Morning session

The last day of our stay in Feldberg. Another try with the White-tailed Eagle but none was seen during the boat ride. A Red Kite stopped by grabbing the eel which was thrown to attract the eagles.

As no other bird was seen and it was also quite cold we went back to enjoy breakfast. After that we wanted to go to the hide where normally the Lesser-spotted Eagle could be seen.

Day session at the hide

The weather turned out to be very unstable. We had everything, shadow from clouds, rain, hail and also sunshine. Main reason for this hide was trying to grab some pictures of the Lesser-spotted Eagle but any other bird is of course welcomed.

After around 20 minutes in the hide a Marsh harrier stopped by and started eating from one of the lures. This guy was there for more than an hour eating all the time. I never thought that such birds could eat that much.

A while later the eagle showed up but kept staying in the back and flew away after 5 minutes.

Around noon a Common Buzzard took the second lure and stayed for half hour eating.

Finally a Gray Heron stalked to the left side of the small lake and around to the opposite side of the hide.

After another while we left the hide to get to our last evening tour.

Evening session

Last session during this stay. The weather turned to be be really bad. Cloudy with some sun spots but shortly after we left the pier it started raining quite heavily. We waited around 30 minutes and then tried to get some kite pictures but that evening wasn’t very good in that sense. One Red and one Black Kite came by, grabbed the fish and were not seen anymore. The red one at least flew above us for a while eating the fish during flight.

In the end I must say that we saw a lot of nice birds during the stay and were lucky with some catches but also need to come back for others. I will definitely watch the news regarding Aalfred and try to make another stay happen.
