Splitted day today. We go out at 6:15am and – after seeking for the Leopard – drive towards north. We have not been in this area before.

Jackal

Several lions are up there and first time we see a family with younger ones.

Later at the Mara river the first African Fish Eagle. Unfortunately a bit far away on the other side of the river and he’s also not out for hunting…

Not very much happening on the evening drive. Some nice positioned Giraffes though.

When we arrive at the rock where some lions are, it gets already dark, after some shots we return to the camp.

An then it happens… It was close to this several times before, but I didn’t fully realize the problem. During all drives I had my D2x with the Sigma 500 lying on the last seat in the off-roader. This time, when Jackson gets hard into a hole, the camera with lens fell off the seat. Quick look back and I noticed directly that it is serious this time. I picked up the gear and saw that the Sigma is broken at the mount. That’s it, no further dx-pictures at 500mm.
